JEDDAH: The Jeddah Chapter of Muslim Education Society (MES) will hold its annual general talent competition (GTC) during the next two months to find the most talented Indian boys and girls, said N.M. Jamaluddin, vice president of the organization. The contest aims at curricular and co-curricular improvement of Indian expatriate students, he added.
Jamaluddin said the competition is open to all Indian students from Class VII to XII including those who are studying in India and have come to Jeddah to spend vacations with parents. “One winner from each of the six categories scoring the highest marks in all the three stages of the competition will be declared as the most talented Indian boy or girl,” Jamaluddin said.
The GTC 2009 will kick off on April 15 when potential contestants will sit for a preliminary exam in their respective schools. Students scoring high marks in the screening test will qualify for the competition's Stage One that includes a written quiz contest, an essay-writing contest and a geography test.
“Those who score high marks in Stage One will qualify for Stage Two in which each contestant will be asked to speak extemporaneously for three to five minutes on a topic given just before the competition,” Jamaluddin said. The top five students qualified from six categories will take part in a stage interview, which is the last phase of the competition. The final ceremony will be held at Indian Consulate premises on May 22.
Individual subject-wise winners from the six categories will be declared based on their performance in quiz, elocution and essay-writing. “GTC 2009 is the seventh edition of this highly successful annual competition that was launched in 2001,” he said. The event is conducted with the cooperation of the Indian Consulate and active participation of various schools that follow Indian curricula.
