TAIF: Two people were seriously injured in two separate car accidents on the Dulam-Al-Khurma road late Monday.
The first accident involved a Saudi driver in a four-wheel-drive vehicle when his tire exploded causing the car to swerve off the road and then flip over many times before coming to a standstill. The other accident happened a few hours later on the Taif-Riyadh highway involving a Pakistani driver. The speeding driver lost control and crashed on the side of the road.
The common thing that links these accidents is the health center in Dulam, which is supposed to receive these cases. The health center is located on a road that is used by visitors to Taif and pilgrims on their way to Makkah.
The residents of Dulam have complained a number of times to health officials about the need to improve the condition of the center. They claim that the number of workers in the center is not sufficient to satisfy the health care needs of Dulam's growing population. They also demand that the center remain open round the clock to receive emergency cases, especially accident victims, instead of closing down in the afternoon.
Judge's car vandalized
A judge in Taif who is known for issuing alternative punishments instead of jail sentences, Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Aziz Al-Abdul Kareem, had his car vandalized late Monday. Police are still investigating the accident.
