JEDDAH: The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice recently launched a training program for its field workers in Makkah province.
“Thirty commission members are participating in the nine-week course currently under way in Jeddah. Its objective is to familiarize the members with the most effective skills while interacting with the public,” said Ahmad Al-Ghamdi, director general of the commission in Makkah province.
Similar courses are being conducted in other cities such as Riyadh, Madinah, Hail, Abha and Jazan in collaboration with the recently-constituted Higher Institute for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, which is aimed at modernizing and professionalizing the force. More than 150 commission members are attending the training programs across the Kingdom.
The participants are instructed on the legal aspects of field duties they undertake in the course of their work, Al-Ghamdi said. They would also undergo training on how to deal with diverse situations without being influenced by psychological pressures or external influences.
“The training course is vital for commission members, as they will have to choose the best style of interaction while dealing with the public,” said the general director.
Khaled Al-Shamrani, rector of the Higher Institute of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, said the program was designed in such a manner that it would instill self-confidence in the commission members to handle any situation in a refined manner.
“The course is designed by the institute after detailed studies on the needs of the commission particularly in its field activities. The trainees will be undergoing counseling sessions so that they can easily grapple with delicate situations effectively and with discretion,” Al-Shamrani said.
The institute also focused on convincing the members on the need to develop good relations with the media, the rector added. The institute would also prepare field reports on the activities of the commission, he said.
