SRINAGAR: Killing of five more fighters and four Indian army troopers yesterday raised the death toll to 19 in the continuing fierce clashes between security forces and holed up fighter groups in the densely forested north Kashmir Shamsbhari mountain range.
An Indian army spokesman said that in all eleven fighters have been killed in the past four days. “Four soldiers of the army were also killed today,” defense spokesman Lt.Col. J.S. Brar told Arab News here yesterday.
An army officer, Major Mohit Sharma, and three troopers were killed in the first three days of the gunfights, according to the spokesman. The operation which commenced on March 20 has been on for the last four days and has witnessed intermittent gunfights between the terrorists ensconced in the higher reaches of the dense forests and the soldiers,” the spokesman said.
