New cameras for this year

SANYO Gulf FZE, a subsidiary of SANYO Electric Co. Ltd (SANYO) has introduced its new line-up of Dual Camera Xactis. The new mixed form factor (Horizontal, Vertical) line-up of six cameras include new waterproof HD models (VPC-WH1, VPC-CA9), Compact HD units (VPC-TH1, VPC-CG10), and Full HD 60p cameras (VPC-FH1, VPC-HD2000). The new cameras will be available starting from the end of this month.

SANYO Dual Camera Xactis combine the benefits of digital still cameras and camcorders in a compact unit, offering the freedom to take both photos and videos separately, but also seamlessly. Further, there is no need to switch modes to take the perfect photo while filming video or switch playback modes when viewing a multi-media slideshow. Dual Camera Xactis are the only cameras that feature in-camera the unique slide-show function capable of viewing both photos and videos without having to stop and switch modes, both when viewing on the camera or when watching from the camera on the television.

Ready to take high resolution photos and record high definition videos in both vertical and horizontal form factors, SANYO offers a variety of body styles providing more options to choose from. Also, because the cameras are small and compact, they are ultra-portable, as well as easy to hold for active filming and shooting while on the go.

The 2009 Dual Camera line-up includes the same advanced dual capability with both traditional television viewing and computer-use/viewing, including instant sharing on the web. Moreover, many are compatible with several optional lenses, just like a pro-level camera. Some of the 2009 models offer a recording time of up to 3 hours 20 minutes (TH1, WH1) thanks to a small but powerful SANYO battery and an engine designed to save energy.

Mini notebooks prove popular

According to Samsung Electronics, its mini notebooks launched last December have been selling well in the Middle East. Samsung entered the market with the NC10, a mini notebook designed to go almost anywhere, with a weight of only 1.3kgs.

“In spite of Samsung’s fresh start in the Middle East mini notebook market, our line-up has gained the trust and admiration of consumers quickly. With the economy in its current state, a lot of people who are looking to buy PCs are increasingly turning to cheap, low-power mini notebooks and as a result we are seeing strong pick up in this product segment,” said Madhav Narayan, GM, IT division, Samsung Gulf Electronics. “When we launched the Samsung NC10 we researched the mini notebook market extensively before diving in, and found many people were frustrated with small keyboards and short battery life, so we included a larger keyboard and 6-cell battery for up to 8 hours of use. These two features are instrumental in the success of mini notebooks in the Middle East and the GCC.”

Even though it is one of the world’s lightest mini notebooks in its 10.2” class the NC10’s innovative design is packed with the latest technology for maximum mobility and productivity. It also incorporates a range of practical features, including a 160GB hard drive and a normal-size, ergonomic notebook PC style keyboard. It is available in white or metallic blue color options.

“In the whole of 2008, almost seven million mini notebooks were shipped in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). While IDC predicts that sales will settle down in 2009 to 20 or 30 percent of all portable sales in EMEA, we believe sales in the Middle East will remain robust,” added Narayan. “We expect to continue to see strong growth in our netbook products especially with Microsoft planning to launch cut down versions of its upcoming Windows 7 and Office suite to work with mini notebooks.”

Demand for mini notebooks is being driven by their small size, light weight, ease of use, their basic, but sufficient, PC functionality, and low cost.
