JEDDAH: Four Saudi students have come first in the Arab robot competition, First Lego, held on the shores of the Dead Sea in Jordan. The students are now set to represent Arab countries in the first international robot competition, which is to be held in Atlanta, US, April 14-18.
The competition, which was held under the title “Climatic Changes,” was divided into four sections: scientific research, team spirit, designing and programming robots, and performing duties in which robots are made to carry out 12 assignments in two and a half minutes.
The students were Misaab Al-Jihani, Buraa Al-Orabi, Basil Al-Mahman and Hussein Al-Aidarous — all of them are from Dar Al-Fikr School in Jeddah.
Mazin Baroum, director general of the school, praised the achievement, saying that the competition is one of the most important robot competitions in the world. He also said the win proved that Saudi students are able to excel in Arab and international competitions.
A total of 28 teams from 15 Arab countries participated in the competition, which was held under the supervision of a team of experts from Lego First International Companies, FLL Organization and the National Center for Educational Robot (NISR), the competition’s official representative in the Arab world.
