JEDDAH: Final designs for eight pedestrian paths were completed and readied for implementation by the Urban Development Department of the Jeddah municipality.
Ashraf Al-Turki, director of the Urban Development Department, said the paths follow different themes and attractions to create good walking experiences for people. The paths will contain public utilities, including toilets, stalls, sitting areas, information centers to distribute leaflets containing information about cultural activities taking place in each walkway.
One of the paths, he said, would exhibit 12 types of art by young people. “The municipality does not only aim at beautifying the city but also at creating a chance for society to mingle in a culturally and socially acceptable atmosphere and to play a role in social education by creating the right activities and locations,” he said.
Al-Turki said each path would have its own booklets and leaflets that offer basic information about the location, its facilities and activities.
People with special needs were also taken into consideration during the designing period, he said.
The municipality has chosen 20 different locations around the city to establish pedestrian paths to cope with demand for aerobic activities, which are common especially among women in Jeddah. Locations were chosen to cover as many districts as possible and to contain the highest number of pedestrians.
