PATNA: The upcoming parliamentary elections will see dozens of film stars descending on the plains of Bihar to campaign for a couple of their brethren who are trying their luck to enter Parliament and to add glamour to otherwise lackluster electioneering.
The battle of ballots between cine actors Shatrughan Sinha and Shekhar Suman is poised to be interesting as a host of glamorous Bollywood actors and supporters of the duo are likely to mesmerize voters of Patna Saheb constituency.
For versatile producer-director Prakash Jha, who is contesting on Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJP) ticket from Bettiah, several top-rated film stars are expected to campaign. Dream girl Hema Malini, playback singer Udit Narayan, Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishen and others are likely to participate in campaign.
Hema will be campaigning for Shatrughan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Patna Saheb, and Udit Narayan, who hails from Bihar, will also seek vote for Shatrughan, while Ravi Kishen will be on the campaign trail for Shekhar and other Congress party candidates.
Actor-cum-director Ajay Devgan, Manoj Bajpayee and Bollywood hear-throb Katrina Kaif are expected to campaign for Prakash Jha in Bettiah. BJP’s media in-charge Sanjiv Mishra said that a written request had been sent to party headquarters to arrange for Hema Malini’s state visit.
A Prakash Jha confidante confirmed that Ajay Devgan, Manoj and Katrina were all set to hit the campaign trail in Bettiah. “A formal invitation has been sent to them and they have given their consent. Their dates are being finalized for Bettiah visit,” said a Jha campaign manager.
Meanwhile, Bollywood star and general secretary of the Samajwadi Party, Sanjay Dutt, has failed to woo voters in Bagha, in Champaran. The police resorted to mild caning as pandemonium began soon after Sanjay took the microphone.
Sanjay, who was in Bagha to campaign for Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Raghunath Jha, had to leave the place, when a huge crowd moved toward him and snapped the wires of public address system.
