RIYADH: Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of the Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation, has donated SR750,000 ($200,000) to a humanitarian project in Malawi. The project is to be executed by the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB), an organ of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

The project aims to reduce child and maternal mortality by providing access to basic health care in Malawi’s Muslim majority areas.

The project involves construction of three community centers in rural areas. Each center will consist of a mosque, a health center, a primary school and a well for clean water. The project will also provide much needed basic health care service to 80,000 inhabitants of 100 villages.
