RIYADH: Arab health ministers will discuss how to control the spread of the H1N1 virus in the region at an emergency meeting today at the Royal Conference Palace, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday.
The Kingdom will host the meeting that will be attended by heath ministers from the GCC member states as well as health ministers from Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Algeria.
“The meeting will prepare a set of recommendations to be implemented within the region in the light of the increasing incidence of H1N1 in more than 18 countries,” Yacoub Al-Mazrou, deputy minister of health for preventive medicine, said yesterday. He added that Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah would chair the day’s proceedings.
He pointed out that a special committee has been appointed to look into the various aspects of the meeting and respective sub-committees have been entrusted to handle the agenda. Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa will also address the delegates.
Health ministers of the GCC and Yemen met on Sunday in Doha and approved joint precautionary measures to encounter the flu in the light of its spread in several parts of the world.
