MAKKAH: A judge at Makkah High Court has issued orders to forcibly evict eight tenants who persisted in their refusal to pay rent.
Following mounting complaints from property owners and with outstanding rent running into hundreds of thousands of riyals, the court decided three months ago to take speedy action on the issue by appointing an executive judge to handle the cases.
Since landlords are not allowed to evict tenants by force, many tenants default on rent payments. There have also been occasions when property owners have offered huge sums to tenants to vacate buildings.
“The court has issued orders to forcibly evict tenants from eight properties. Five other properties are currently awaiting court orders,” said Maj. Zaki Al-Ruhaili, spokesman for Makkah police.
Al-Ruhaili said the court has set up a committee that has powers to enter houses and remove tenants’ belongings.
