JEDDAH: The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) will soon introduce an electronic system for attestation, according to Muhiyuddin Hakami, director of the information technology at the JCCI.
He said the new system would be able to provide five million annual attestations at all chambers in the Kingdom, adding that it would be carried out with the help of the Internet.
“Once the electronic system is implemented, people can get attestation round the clock without visiting the offices of the chambers. Members can use the service from anywhere in the world,” Hakami said.
He said the electronic system would reduce mistakes, facilitate checking of the authenticity of documents by authorities and reduce crowds at chambers across the country.
He said the JCCI had presented a study on providing electronic attestation services a long time ago. He said the new electronic project is being implemented by Yusr, the electronic programming section of the Ministry of Telecom and Information Technology.
The JCCI alone provides 1.2 million to 1.3 million attestations a year. “The total number of attestations provided by chambers in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam is estimated at four million. The remaining chambers provide nearly one million,” he said.
Hekami said electronic attestation would ensure protection of official documents from forgery. He said the Jeddah chamber designed the website for attestation, the electronic signing system and the program for checking signatures.
