MAKKAH: The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice yesterday arrested two young men who tried to kidnap a woman in Makkah’s Al-Otaibiya market.
Four men in a car driving next to the young woman asked her to get in with them. When she rejected their repeated advances, two of the men got out and tried to force her inside. A commission car saw the kidnap attempt and chased the men. As the market was crowded the car could not get far and commission members arrested two of the men. The other two escaped.
Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al-Duailej, head of the commission’s branch in Makkah, advised parents against allowing their daughters to visit shopping centers alone. “The four men committed a horrible crime by trying to kidnap a girl in this holy city,” said Al-Duailej.
He also urged police to increase their presence in the city’s shopping areas to protect people from such crimes.
