MANAMA. The Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS) has joined Amnesty International in support of its global campaign to abolish the death penalty. The BHRWS is calling on the Bahrain government to abolish the death penalty. “The right to life and a fair trial should be guaranteed to all offenders who are tried. The death penalty does not solve the problem. In case of serious crimes, the authorities should give a sentence of life imprisonment instead of execution,” BHRWS head Faisal Fulad told Arab News. The society members met recently with an Amnesty official and discussed plans of action so that Bahrain could adopt the “no death penalty” policy. Fulad called upon GCC countries to discuss implementation of an international law in their countries which calls for doing away with the death penalty and replacing it with life imprisonment.
