AL-JOUF: Police in Sakaka announced yesterday the arrest of seven men between the ages of 18 and 23 accused of breaking into and robbing homes, cars and farm properties.
Al-Jouf police spokesman Col. Daman Al-Daran said the suspects confessed to robbing more than 25 residences. One of the suspects, identified as a foreign resident, is accused of being the man appointed to sell the stolen goods.
Al-Jouf police also announced yesterday the arrest of a 34-year-old man, identified as mentally ill, on charges of attempting to kidnap his 18-month-old niece.
Police said the man’s younger brother engaged in a vehicular pursuit and forced the kidnapper’s vehicle to the side of the road. The man then reportedly exited the vehicle with the girl in one arm and a rifle in the other.
A police officer then tackled the man and disarmed him. The man has been committed to a mental institution, police said.
