RIYADH: A brawl among students at the International Indian School, Riyadh, (IISR) left several students injured, including one with a split nose, on Thursday. Police were called in to quell what appeared to be a gang war among various groups. Witnesses said a large number of outsiders were also involved in the fight inside the school premises.

IISR Principal Manzar Jamal, however, played down the incident saying, “I was told that a senior grade student fell in the bathroom and that probably caused some bleeding.”

According to eyewitnesses and parents, school officials questioned several students. Some of the brawlers were allegedly armed with daggers. No students were detained. The troublemakers escaped as teachers and security guards failed to stop them.

“I saw students punching each other,” said a teacher expressing concern over the growing number of such incidents in the school. The brawl also attracted the attention of passersby who stopped to watch the fight.
