AL-RASS: A broad range of topics related to linking Qassim University to the industrial sector will be presented at a symposium organized by the university at Al-Rass city today.
Qassim Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar will attend the opening of the three-day event, which is aimed at creating effective partnerships between the university and the private sector, said Khaled bin Abdulrahman Al-Hmoody, rector of Qassim University.
“Tunisia will be the guest of the event,” Al-Hmoody said, adding that the country will present its experience in attracting industrial investment for research partnership.
Arab and Saudi speakers will hold eight different workshops, addressing the opportunities and challenges that exist for enhancing university-industry collaboration and partnership, he said.
He said 77 private companies and factories would take part in a trade exhibition, which is being held on the sidelines of the event. “The role of the university is not just providing knowledge but also making every effort to enhance the economic and social growth of society,” Al-Hmoody said.
“This partnership event comes within the framework of the Kingdom’s constant concern in scientific research as a major contributor of development and social security,” he added.
“With globalization and integrated economies, we are in great need to strengthen the competitiveness of our firms and companies if we want them to compete in such an open economy. It is through such partnerships with universities as research houses that our firms can improve performance and develop competitiveness,” Al-Hmoody said.
“We, at Qassim University, hope that such get-together events would help create a strong relationship between the university and the private sector, and increase investment in scientific research for the betterment of Saudi Arabia,” he added.
