RIYADH: Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who arrived here yesterday, said his talks with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah would explore prospects of expanding relations in economic, political and security fields.
"Coordination of efforts to combat terrorism and seaborne piracy is another important subject for discussion," the president said.
King Abdullah and Saleh held talks on major regional and international issues and ways of strengthening cooperation, the Saudi Press Agency said, adding that top officials from both sides attended the talks.
Earlier on arrival at Riyadh Airbase, the Yemeni president was received by King Abdullah, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Prince Naif, senior princes and Cabinet members.
In an arrival statement, Saleh commended the initiative taken by King Abdullah at the Arab economic summit in Kuwait to achieve reconciliation among Arab leaders. "We will also discuss ways of strengthening Arab unity," he said. He thanked King Abdullah for the Kingdom's continued support for Yemen's development and his desire to strengthen its security, stability and integrity.
"I take this opportunity to commend King Abdullah's stand in support of Yemen at the Gulf Cooperation Council, as the strength of Yemen as well as its security and stability are a strength for Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries," Saleh said.
The president called upon Saudi businessmen to invest in Yemen. Saleh said his current visit would contribute to bolstering the historic relations between the two Arab neighbors.
