NAJRAN: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has approved the granting of 1,188 square kilometers of government land for distribution among the people of Najran, Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah, the province's governor, announced yesterday.
He said the land, which was previously allocated for the Ministry of Defense and Aviation, would be quickly developed by the Najran municipality for distribution among deserving citizens.
Prince Mishaal yesterday met Najran Mayor Saad Al-Shahrani to discuss the mechanism for the just distribution of the land. Priority will be given to those who are in the waiting list. Public facilities such as schools, mosques and hospitals will also be constructed in the area.
Prince Mishaal also held talks yesterday with Abdullah Ruhaimy, president of the General Authority for Civil Aviation, on a SR298 million project to develop Najran Airport. Ruhaimy congratulated the prince on his new appointment as governor of Najran.
He said the project, which includes a new passenger lounge, a royal lounge, parking for six planes and a new control tower, would be completed within two years. Ruhaimy said the number of passengers handled by Najran Airport would increase to 1.4 million annually with 15,000 flights by the year 2030.
"The present project will help operate international flights from Najran," Ruhaimy said.
Najran holds fourth position in the Kingdom's domestic airports in terms of operations.
Ruhaimy briefed the governor on the expansion of Sharourah Airport. "We have spent more than SR25 million on expansion and renovation of passenger lounges and aviation facilities," he said.
