DUBAI: Authorities in Dubai have arrested a gang accused of trying to peddle 41 kilos of heroin with a street value of 20 million dirhams.
The drugs had been hidden between two planks of wood that were nailed onto the furniture.
Speaking to the press, Brig. Abdul Jalil Mahdi said the police were tipped off by one of their informers that a Pakistani national was looking to sell heroin in his possession. A task force was set up to deal with the case and on May 28, they nabbed the man in the Rifaa area. When the police searched the man’s house they found a suitcase containing 2.7 kilos of heroin.
The man confessed to the police that he received the narcotics from a compatriot, named Mohammed, who had asked him to store the drugs in his house. He also admitted to have dropped off Mohammed in a warehouse in the industrial area in Sharjah where he kept the rest of the drugs.
The police then tracked down Mohammed and arrested him at a furnished flat in Naif. He led the police to a third suspect, an Indian national named Badru Al-Deen, who he had given the drugs to for safekeeping. The police arrested the third suspect and seized 39 kg of the heroin in his possession.
