JEDDAH: Saudi border guards have foiled efforts to smuggle 5.5 million Captagon tablets, 3,002 kg of hashish and 19.5 kg of heroin into the Kingdom, an Interior Ministry spokesman said yesterday. Security forces arrested 81 Saudis and 75 foreign nationals in connection with the drug busts. “A foreigner was held while he was trying to smuggle 450 kg of hashish, one kg of opium and 4,500 Captagon tablets through the Kingdom’s eastern coast on a boat,” he said. Captagon is a commercial name for fenethylline, which is an amphatamine-like drug once used to treat ADHD but has since been deemed a controlled substance in most countries.
