MACAU: The environmentally conscious “green carpet” was rolled out last night and a collection of Indian cinema’s brightest stars gathered here for the night known as the Bollywood Oscars.

The awards ceremony concluded the three-day International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) gathering at the giant Venetian resort in Macau, which says all 3,000 suites available for the night had been booked up.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan picked up gongs for Star of the Decade (female) and Outstanding Achievement by an Indian in International Cinema, while Shah Rukh Khan bagged the Star of the Decade (male).

Abhishek Bachchan took the award for the best actor in comic role. He almost cried while thanking his father Amitabh Bachchan. “Lagaan” was declared the Best Film of the Decade. A. R. Rahman was honored with the award for the Best Music Director of the Decade, while Rakesh Roshan got the best director’s award in the same category.

The award for the best actor in negative role went to Akshay Khanna. Arjun Rampal got the trophy for the best actor in supporting role and Kangna Ranaut took the award for female in the same category.

Rajesh Khanna was honored with Lifetime Achievement Award. Ashutosh Gowarikar was declared the best director. The coveted award for the best actress went to Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan was presented with the best actor award.

“Jodhaa Akbar” was declared the best film.
