MANAMA: Five new swine flu cases were detected by Bahraini health authorities last night, bringing the total number of swine flu cases on the island to 13.
Seven Bahraini students (two boys and five girls) who returned from the US tested positive for the deadly virus on Sunday. The students were among 13 Bahraini students who were studying in the US for 10 months as part of an exchange education program. Five more students (two boys and one girl), and two female relatives of the students who first tested positive on Sunday were confirmed contaminated with the flu last night.
The Ministry of Health is now under the scanner as it had cleared all family members and six students of the 13 returning students. The flu carriers were mingling with the public for more than 24 hours before their specimens were tested yesterday and confirmed positive.
