Hospital sued
AL-JOUF: A Saudi husband filed a complaint against Al-Qurayat General Hospital for allegedly leaving a surgical towel inside his wife during surgery on her stomach. The woman’s condition worsened following the operation. The man took his wife to Jordan for examinations where doctors discovered the problem and removed the towel. The woman is now recuperating. The man in his letter to the Health Ministry has asked concerned officials of the hospital to reimburse the expenses incurred on his trip to Jordan.
Bike fleet for cops
MADINAH: Madinah police introduced a fleet of motorbikes as part of a new project launched for the first time in the Kingdom, a local daily reported yesterday. Madinah police chief Gen. Awadh Al-Sarhani said the project aims at improving the work of field officers. The motorbikes enable police to navigate narrow alleyways and traffic congestion.
‘Grave’ blunder
Al-SULAYYIL: Al-Sulayyil General Hospital recorded a fatal mistake when it accidentally buried a non-Muslim in Muslim grave, a local daily reported yesterday. A Saudi sponsor wanted to claim the body of his non-Muslim worker who died in an accident in order to send the body home. Hospital workers then reportedly gave the sponsor the wrong body. When the sponsor of the deceased pointed out the mistake, the authorities dug out the body and brought it back to the morgue and later sent the body home.
Man buried alive
MADINAH: An Egyptian construction worker died when the trench he was working caved in and buried him alive, the daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday. Three teams from the Civil Defense arrived at the location in an attempt to rescue the man, but to no avail. The body was recovered at a depth of four meters.
