SRINAGAR: The judicial inquiry appointed by the state government to probe the rape and murder of two south Kashmir women in the face of a bitter public outcry is learned to have established the gang rape and murder of the duo.

The rape and murder of the two women on May 30 continues to keep the Kashmir Valley on the boil with violent protests and lockdowns.

While the Shopian town, the place where the crime took place, continues to remain shut, demanding punishment for the guilty, Kashmir traders held protests yesterday across the valley against the incident.

Yesterday’s protests marked the beginning of the second week of valleywide protests by people from different walks of life called by the hard-line separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

The hard-line separatist All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) headed by Geelani arrested by police last week announced the calendar for this week’s protests yesterday.

Sources in the probe commission told Arab News that examination of the forensic science laboratory (FSL) report has confirmed gang rape and murder of the two women beyond any doubt.
