NEW DELHI: Internal crisis within the Hindu extremist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has deepened further with its general secretary Arun Jaitley resigning from the party post.
Jaitley’s resignation yesterday, coming within less than a week of senior party leader Yashwant Sinha quitting from all party posts, is viewed as another fallout of party’s poor performance in Lok Sabha elections.
Jaitley, one of the party’s poll managers, has faced strong criticism from party leaders like Sinha and Jaswant Singh over his refusal to share responsibility for BJP’s poll debacle. Jaitley has been pressurized by party leaders, including BJP President Rajnath Singh to accept his share of responsibility ahead of the party’s National Executive meeting. Jaitley is understood to have handed in his resignation also to take the sting out of criticism.
