JEDDAH: Jeddah United Sports Co. (JUSC) organized a champions mini basketball tournament between Help Center and Abjad Center.
The opening was an exhibition game between the coaches and councilors of both organizations to set the mood for the players who were going to step on the court for a friendly match. The crowd cheered happily for both teams.
Following the exhibition game was the match between Help team headed by coach Rajaa Hamouri, head of sports and swimming department, and Abjad team headed by coach Maaly Alabdali.
The game was very exciting with mothers and family members cheering for their loved ones. Captain and point guard Nadia Abdul Wahid was running up and down the court, passing balls to her teammates Rana, Hadeel , Amal and Fatma.
On the Help Center team captain and MVP Haneen dominated the court and made her teammates Fatma, Dalia, Dawya, Sara, |Ibtihal and Khloud proud.
Help Center took the first half lead at 12-8. Both teams scored 10 points in the second half with Help Center eventually winning the game 22-18 and the gold medals. Abjad won the silver medals.
Maha Al Juffali, director and supervising trustee of the Help Center, presented the teams with the gold and silver medals.
Both teams played with honor and enjoyed the sports event which brought happiness and triumph to their lives.
With Lina Almaeena, director of Jeddah United Sports Co., running the show were Maaly Alabdali, operations manager, and Marwa Ashrour, JU assisting coach.
The objective of JUSC is to promote sports among all segments of society including the disabled segment. JUSC had collaborations with both the Help Center, with 20 years of experience, and Abjad Center, which helps mentally disabled children live and function as independently as possible within the community.
Programs offered in these centers give disabled girls a chance in learning, education and recreation.
