JEDDAH: Last week Gold’s Gym finished its week-long under-20 3-on-3 Street Basketball Tournament.
Kids from 13 years old to 20 flocked to Gold’s Gym for a chance at the top prize of 8,000SR for first place and 4,000SR for second place.
Gold’s basketball court officially known as the Hood sponsored the event with the help of Prince Turki bin Tamer bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud who attended the games. Selected 13 to 16 year olds started the night’s festivities with a 5-on-5 exhibition game.
In the final game, Faisal Park went head to head against Boston and after regulation time expired the score was tied. Overtime was more of the same and the team that was down resorted to putting the other team on the foul line hoping for a miss.
The strategy worked as both teams missed their foul shots and they went into double overtime. Both teams had a chance to pull away and win but missed key foul shots resulting in a third overtime period.
Faisal Park made a fantastic play penetrating and passing around the defense for a layup. It worked and they went up two baskets. Boston was down four baskets with only seconds left on the clock and they hit a three that left them down two baskets.
Boston got two more chances from the foul line to tie the game and missed them both. Faisal Park eked out the win in the triple overtime game to the delight of their fans that packed the court.
Faisal Park’s players were Ukram Abu Bakr, Ahmed Hamada, Usman Tawakal, and Tahir Muhammed. Boston’s players were Addae Abdullah, Salaman Muhammed, Khalid Yassin, and Zaid Mustafah.
The tournament MVP was 18-year-old Abdullahi Hausawi who received a free 30 day trip and English course to Canada from Cairo International Travel. Both teams received trophies and medals along with their cash prize.
