JEDDAH: Too many SMS messages and international phone calls led a 21-year-old Saudi to receive a SR45,000 mobile phone bill after only two months of use. According to yesterday’s Al-Yaum newspaper, the man has vowed not to use a mobile phone for a year after being hit with that sticker shock. Considering the size of the bill, it might take more than a year to pay off that tab.

HAIL: Sports fanaticism has left the stadium and entered the wedding hall. According to a local Saudi daily, a man sent out wedding invitations requesting that fans of Jeddah’s Al-Ittihad Club and Riyadh’s Al-Nasr Club not to attend the wedding. “The fans of these two clubs are not welcome to the party,” read the invitation, according to yesterday’s Okaz newspaper.
