DAMMAM: Border guards in the Eastern Province arrested three Arab expatriates while attempting to cross into a neighboring country illegally. The name of the country was not provided.
“On detecting the illegal attempt by three people on the surveillance camera installed at the borders, the guards rushed to the location and took them in custody,” said Col. Muhammad Al-Ghamdi, spokesman of the border guards in the province. Investigations are under way into what prompted the three expatriates to leave the country in an illegal manner.
Over the past six months the guards arrested 244 foreigners attempting to escape from the country. They also stopped 180 boats for various violations.
In another development, the border guards rescued a number of Saudi fishermen off the coast of Alkhobar after they ran out of gas. The guards went looking for them after receiving a distress call.
The spokesman said the guards saved a total of 140 people in 74 boats out in the sea on picnic or fishing this year. He put the number of people rescued while drowning at 45.
