JEDDAH: The consulates of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) organized a table tennis tournament for their mission members here over the weekend, as part of their decision to stage ‘ASEAN Games’ here this year.
The men’s championship went to Singapore, while the women’s Single and Mix Double went to Indonesia.
The Thai Consulate General organized the table tennis, which tournament kicked off at Thai Consul General Praphat Chantaharn’s residence.
Chantaharn, who opened the tournament, said: “The aim of the event is to strengthen the friendship, cooperation and solidarity among the staff and families of the ASEAN missions — Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
Singapore will next host a badminton tournament on July 16 and Philippines a bowling tournament on July 30. These will be followed by Malaysia organizing a Sepak Takraw tournament, Brunei a golf tournament and Indonesia a tennis tournament.
