JEDDAH: A seminar to mark the launch of a new educational program for gifted children was held recently at Jeddah’s Future Generation International School. The keynote at the seminar was delivered by Shabana Khan, principal of FGI School and an educationalist.
The event highlighted the need for discovering children who have special talents that many a times go unnoticed. Khan explained the special features of gifted children, some apparently positive while some negative. She also explained to the audience the role of parents in watching their children closely for such features.
The audience, mostly parents from different schools, had specific questions to the presenter to which she gave precise replies. She suggested to the parents to visit the school website (www.fgischool.com) and see the formats that contain the features for different age groups of gifted children and judge for themselves whether their children are gifted or not.
Once the school receives their findings, an expert committee in the school will decide precisely whether the child is really gifted or not. If the child is found to be “gifted,” irrespective of the school in which she/he is studying, the child will be included in the training program that is to be launched soon.
The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Abdullah Hussain Basalama, a veteran medical doctor and former dean of King Abdul Aziz University Medical College and author of many books. Basma Iftekhar welcomed the audience and expressed vote of thanks.
