MAKKAH: Five pilgrims were killed and five others injured when a bus plowed into a row of parked cars in front of Dar Al-Tawheed Hotel in Makkah on Friday night.

The driver allegedly lost control of bus on an incline and crashed into the parked cars damaging at least six of them. Makkah police have launched an investigation. The driver, according to a source, violated traffic rules by driving on the wrong side on two streets prior to the accident. The driver was taken to hospital to be tested for drug abuse.

His fingerprints were also taken for a background check. Three of the victims have not yet been identified and the bodies are being kept at the King Faisal Hospital morgue in Al-Shesha.

The other two victims have been identified as a Bangladeshi and a Pakistani. The SAPTCO bus, with a capacity of 45 passengers, was on its way to the bus stop when the accident happened in central Makkah. There were some passengers in the bus.
