TAIF: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah inaugurated the new office building for the grand mufti of Saudi Arabia in Taif on Tuesday.
The SR90 million six-story facility covers an area of 10,000 square meters, Saudi Press Agency reported.
Second Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Prince Naif, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh, who is also chairman of the Saudi Council of Senior Scholars, attended the function.
Welcoming the king to the venue of the function, Al-Asheikh said: “Almighty Allah made the Kingdom achieve unity in the hands of King Abdul Aziz. His children have been following their predecessor’s footsteps to achieve unparalleled progress by ruling the country on the basis of the Book of Allah.”
Stressing the significance of the rapport between the religious scholars and the rulers for the progress the country, Al-Asheikh said: “Almighty Allah blessed this country with a strong bond between its rulers, scholars and people on the basis of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him, making the country a model for administration and stability.” The strong ties between the scholars and the rulers are essential for the rule of law and to hunt down the elements that attempt to destabilize and destroy the nation, the mufti added.
“The Council of Senior Scholars stands beside the rulers, supporting those who support the government and against anyone who opposes Shariah and any terror deeds committed against the Ummah,” he said.
“The Muslims who flock to the Kingdom from across the world every year are witnesses to the country's safety and prosperity. The country is in fact envied for its religion, security, prosperity and stability,” he said.
