GAZA CITY: Over 50 people were injured — some of them seriously — early on Wednesday when a blast rocked a wedding party in Khan Younis, witnesses and medical sources said.
According to the sources, the explosion happened during the wedding of a relative of Mohammed Dahlan, National Security Adviser to President Mahmoud Abbas, until the Gaza Strip was taken over by Hamas in 2007.
Witnesses said a huge explosion occurred under a small stage in a street west of the city, adding that dozens of people were wounded, including the groom Mahmoud Dahlan and his father.
“Initial investigations revealed the explosion was a result of a stun bomb,” said Hamas interior ministry. Later, the ministry announced that the “internal security” arrested three suspects but it did not identify them.
In the West Bank, Mohammed Dahlan accused Hamas members of planting the bomb. He said that after the explosion, they threw other explosives into the crowd and fired shots.
