MAKKAH: The security plan for the Umrah season during Ramadan has been finalized. Plans include the formation of an executive command, the experimental operation of the Command and Control Pilgrimage Security Center and the provision of manpower and financial resources, head of public security Lt. Gen. Saeed Al-Qahtani said.
“We have provided all the requirements of the security plans including equipment, supply, communications and others,” he told Arab News on Wednesday.
He said arrangements and plans for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan and this year’s pilgrimage season were also completed. “Special duty units were established and assignments were specified for them,” he added.
Al-Qahtani said the commanders inspected the locations of these units and reviewed their plans making sure they consisted of enough manpower, equipment and tools.
He said the central area around the Holy Mosque in Makkah has been divided into sections and each unit has been assigned a specific location in this area. “The security plan has taken into account the new development plans and expansion of the central area,” he said.
Al-Qahtani said the training city for the public security in Makkah will also participate in the implementation of the security plan in addition to its duties of training and qualification.
“The trainees will participate in the execution of the plan while the other forces will make use of the potential of this city,” he added.
He explained that the plan has been formulated under the direct instructions of Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Prince Naif and Deputy Interior Minister Prince Ahmed ibn Abdul Aziz and with the close and personal follow up of the assistant interior minister for security affairs.
“We are keen to provide the best of services to visitors and pilgrims and to enable them to perform their rituals in peace and comfort,” he concluded.
