JEDDAH: The Saudi Sea Games Association will hold a national championship for jet skiing on Aug. 4. “The new championship differs from those of the previous years in the sense that this is being organized officially with the participation of Saudi and foreign athletes from all provinces while in the past the competitions were on an local levels,” the president of the association, Maj. Gen. Awad Al-Balawi, told Arab News.

The activities of the association will also include ski stunts by world-renowned athletes, Al-Balawi said.

The association was founded a year ago. Its statutes are being laid down currently. It has also been striving for memberships in regional and international organizations.

“I believe that all formalities related to getting membership in international and regional sports organizations will be completed in the next five months. The association will also launch a website shortly,” he added.

Urging private companies to support the association and sponsor Saudi water athletes, Al-Balawi said: “In collaboration with the College of Oceanic Studies at King Abdulaziz University, the association has taken initial steps to found a club for sea sports besides acquiring sailboats and recruiting coaches and trainees for boat racing.”
