JEDDAH: The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice in Jeddah announced it has arrested three men in their 20s after receiving complaints from three married women that they had obtained photographs of them and were using them for sexual blackmail.
“The women suffered, fearing defamation,” said Commission spokesman for Makkah province Salim Al-Sarwani. “They were scared that their marriages might end in divorce if they did not succumb to the bad intentions of their harassers.”
Suspects and the women were not identified. Al-Sarwani told Arab News that the married women sought the commission’s help after all efforts to get back their photos from the young men failed.
The spokesman said the commission caught the men with their mobile phones, which contained the photos of the women. The men were then handed over to police.
Head of the Commission in Makkah province, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Qasim, said the commission investigates all blackmail complaints.
“Women should stay away from forbidden relationships and suspicious friendships that might undermine their integrity and threaten their marriages,” he said. “The commission has been very successful in curbing the number of harassment cases all over the Kingdom.”
Al-Qasim also said that the Commission takes great care not to reveal the identities of the women who come to them with these type of complaints.
