JEDDAH: The Jeddah municipality has started fixing the bumps, ditches and sinkholes left by contractors after finishing their projects.
“The municipality has signed a three-year, SR10 million contract to correct faults on roads left over by contractors who did not honor their contracts, director of roads department at the municipality, Faisal Shawli said.
He said the municipality had given the contractors a time limit during which they should repair the roads. But when they failed to do so, it took the matter into its own hands and said it would begin correcting all faults on the city streets.
Shawli said the re-asphalting would be at the expense of the contractors who caused the ditches and bumps and added that a fine of up to SR30,000 would be imposed for each incident of damage to the streets.
He said the municipality has 14 teams consisting of engineers and supervisors to inspect roads for faults.
