AMMAN: Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood movement on Saturday warned Arab leaders against succumbing to US pressures seeking to convince them to waive the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes which they were forced to leave upon the foundation of Israel in Palestine in 1948.
Addressing a rally in Amman, the Brotherhood’s leader Hammam Saeed said that any parting with the “sacred” right of return and accepting the resettlement of Palestinians outside their homeland would be “treason” against the nation.
“The Jordanian people will not allow the resettlement conspiracy to pass and the Palestinian refugees will not accept an alternative homeland for Palestine because the land of Israa is not for sale,” he added.
Saeed’s remarks came amidst reports that the United States was mulling the launch of a new initiative for settling the Arab-Israeli conflict that envisaged, among other things, the resettlement of Palestinian refugees in countries where they live now.
Jordan, host to 1.8 million Palestinian refugees, is reportedly one of key Arab countries being targeted by the US administration of Barack Obama.
“The Jordanian people, who rejected the Wadi Araba (peace pact) with the Zionist entity, will not accept the conspiracies of resettlement and normalization and we say to all Arab, regional and international sides that we reject resettlement and compensations and we warn against going ahead with such dangerous inclinations which will lead to catastrophic consequences,” Saeed said.
He also condemned allowing fanatic Jewish occupiers last week to enter the compound of Al-Aqsa Mosque and perform rituals there and warned that Islam’s third holiest shrine was being exposed to a “new conspiracy”.
