JEDDAH: Illegal residents from India and Indonesia seeking to be detained and deported clashed on Tuesday under the Kandarah Bridge on King Fahd Road, according to acting police spokesman Lt. Col. Suleiman Al-Mutawae. Five Indians were injured in the skirmish. Al-Mutawae said the reason for the fight is unclear but that “several” people were arrested after police intervened to break up the clash.
The spot is a popular camp-out place for illegal foreign residents seeking to be captured and deported. It is located near an illegal immigration detention center run by the Passport Department. These migrants, seeking free fare home, typically have a difficult time being deported because of the backlog and crowding at the center.
