ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court here accepted a petition challenging the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) that enabled leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party to return and take part in polls by quashing the graft cases against them.
The petitioner, Azfal Jat, says the NRO only provides protection to the politicians and not the civil servants. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had convicted Jat, a former employee of the Karachi Civil Aviation Authority, on corruption charges.
In his petition to the apex court, Jat accused the NAB of partial and selective accountability measures. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry has been asked by a two-member panel of the court to constitute a bench of seven judges to deal with all NRO cases.
