JEDDAH: A Saudi citizen, 23, and a Yemeni expatriate, 31, were sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after they were found guilty of stealing a diamond ring worth SR250,000 from a jewelry shop in the northern part of the city.
According to prosecutors, the two convicts committed their crime early this year by entering a shop together. One of the men claimed to be a representative of a businesswoman while the other posed as an executive. The two visited the jewelry shop several times and bonded with the salesman. When the salesman was paying attention to another customer, the men fled with the ring in a rented car. The salesman reported the case to the police giving a detailed description of the two criminals.
The ring was found at the home of the Yemeni man and was returned. The men were also caught by camera during their visits to the store.
