RIYADH: Imams in mosques throughout the Kingdom appealed during their Friday sermons to welcome the forthcoming holy month of Ramadan with a true sense of piety and strictly follow the teachings of the Holy Qur’an.
“Cultivate the habit of fasting among your children during this holy month,” Sheikh Hussein Al-Sheikh, chief imam of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah said while addressing the congregation at the Holy Haram on Friday.
He added such habits would go a long way in the children’s lives.
The imam also said the religion allows the sick to abstain from fasting but they have to feed the poor in compensation for their loss of fasting days. Pregnant and feeding mothers can refrain from fasting but they have to cover up the lost days during their healthy period.
“The month is an ideal opportunity for people to unlearn their bad habits and cultivate healthy behavioral patterns,” he said.
Sheikh Saleh Al-Talib, chief imam of the Holy Haram in Makkah, said the doors of heaven are opened in Ramadan and Allah the Almighty offers bountiful rewards to Muslims who do good deeds during the holy month. “A day of fasting during this holy month will keep a Muslim away from hell for 70 years,” he stressed.
