JEDDAH: Saudi writer and social activist Intisar Ahmad Felemban is to represent Saudi Arabia in the upcoming board meeting of the Afro-Asian Writers Association (AAWA).
Felemban, who is a member of the Saudi Human Rights Organization and a researcher in security matters, has previously represented the Kingdom in various conferences on regional and international issues and has spoken and written on racism, terrorism and extremism. She is also a strong advocate of cultural dialogue as a means of world peace.
Felemban was honored by AAWA, which supervises cultural and intellectual activities in 85 African and Asian countries, at its Cairo conference. The association organized the event last year in conjunction with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Information as a symbol of rising Arab women.
Felemban described her nomination as an honor for both Saudi and Arab women. “It has been my dream to guide people, enlighten them against the dangers of terrorism and extreme ideologies, and sow seeds of patriotism in the minds of the young generation,” she said.
Other members of the association are Muhammad Marjan from Egypt, Wang Ho from China, Abdul Wali Al-Shomairi from Yemen, Ibrahim Al-Sharif from Nigeria, Mutawakkil Taha from Palestine, Ahmad Al-Kilaib from Kuwait, Ifthikhar Arif from Pakistan, Muhammad Najmi from Morocco, Abdul Rahman Kan from Senegal, Tawfiq Ismail from Indonesia and Omar Al-Mahi from Chad.
