MADINAH: A Chadian couple along with one of their two children died in a house fire here on Saturday morning, according to the local head of the Civil Defense, Col. Mansour Al-Johani.
“When the department’s firefighters reached the area, they found columns of smoke coming from the apartment,” he said in a statement yesterday.
“The second child was surprisingly alive and was rushed to hospital.”
The names and ages of the victims of the blaze were not disclosed. The three are believed to have died from smoke inhalation. Al-Johani said his department was alerted to the fire at 7:50 a.m. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical short circuit.
Meanwhile, two Bangladeshi workers died and another was injured in a cave-in along Al-Oyoun Road north of Madinah while they were working on a 2-meter trench dug for a sewage line.
Civil Defense rescuers tried to save the workers who were buried under the mud. A third worker, who was found alive, has been taken to hospital for treatment, Al-Johani said.
