TAIF: The Taif Charity Society launched on Saturday, the first day of Ramadan, a scheme to supply fast-breaking meal packets for the needy in all towns and villages within the Taif mayoralty.
The Health Department has asked people to keep away from crowded locations and wear facemasks to protect themselves from H1N1 flu infection. All the health centers will be open round the clock in the month.
The district centers in the city have organized several cultural functions and religious lectures to mark the advent of Ramadan. Municipal authorities have beefed up inspections of eateries in and around the city in order to guarantee the supply of hygienic food throughout the month.
Taif Municipal Chairman Muhammad Al-Mukhrij said the municipality was making all efforts to make shops selling food and drinks follow hygiene regulations.
"Every possible step has been taken to ensure the quality of food in markets, particularly in places selling meat, poultry products, fish and milk. Refrigerators, cold storages and trucks for their transportation are also subjected to health inspections," Al-Mukhrij said.
He said the municipal inspectors would also focus on the cleanness and precautionary health measures at markets and parks besides taking care of environmental health.
Insecticide fumigation and spraying has also been intensified as a means to prevent insects spreading dangerous infections.
The municipality has opened a round the clock control room to receive complaints from customers when they come across any attempt by shopkeepers to sell unhygienic food.
