RIYADH: Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah has ordered the restructuring of all existing boards of administration of medical cities and specialized hospitals that are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health.
According to the move, all existing boards for these facilities will be abolished and replaced with one single board. The new board — known as the Medical Cities and Specialized Hospitals Board — will act as the supreme directing body for these establishments.
The medical facilities, which are all tertiary health care institutions, include King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh, King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh and King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Dammam.
The new board, which will run for three years, will be chaired by the minister himself and include the deputy finance minister for regulations and finance, the deputy health minister for executive affairs, the deputy health minister for planning and development, the adviser of job classification and recruitment at the Ministry of Civil Service, the directors general of Health Affairs in the cities in which the medical facilities are located and the executive director general of each establishment.
Although the facilities are mainly financed by the government through a separate Ministry of Health budget, they will be allowed to receive donations and offer other types of services to generate more income.
Each medical establishment will have its own executive director general who will regularly report to the board on all matters related to the facility’s management.
