JEDDAH: Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal announced on Sunday a plan to establish three urban centers in Makkah, Jeddah and Taif, saying that they would be named after Crown Prince Sultan.
A meeting was held at the governor’s office in Jeddah on Sunday to discuss how to finance the project while a working team has been formed to implement it.
The centers are established to mark the return of Prince Sultan to the country after his medical trip abroad. The crown prince is now taking rest in the Moroccan city of Agadir after an operation.
The meeting to discuss the project was attended by Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed, Abdullah Ruhaimy, president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Jeddah Mayor Adel Fakieh and Muhammad Al-Fadl, chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The total areas of residential districts in the Makkah province is expected to increase from 1,822 square kilometers in 2005 to 3,032 square kilometers in 2030, registering a growth rate of 66.3 percent. Cities in the province will cover 64.2 percent of the total area while the remaining will go to villages. The total area of asphalted roads will increase from 1,600 km in 2005 to 8,630 km in 2030.
