JEDDAH: The Passport Department has deployed 83 additional officers at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to deal with the Umrah rush during Ramadan, said Col. Ayed Al-Harbi, assistant director general of Passports for Haj and Umrah Affairs. He said the new arrangement would continue until Oct. 4.
Human trafficker rescued in desert
WADI AL-DAWASSER: Police here rescued a human trafficker and 32 illegal migrants after the smuggler’s car broke down in the middle of the desert, a local daily reported on Monday. Police received a missing-person report by the trafficker’s brother. Authorities located the man in the desert 160 km south of Wadi Al-Dawasser by triangulating his mobile phone signal. There were two African illegal migrants with the man. Thirty other migrants were found about 30 km away from where the trafficker was found.
Five killed in road accident
RENYA: An expatriate, his wife and three children died in a car accident on the Renya-Bisha highway, Al-Yaum newspaper reported on Monday. The car was speeding when it collided with a truck causing the family’s vehicle to catch fire and explode. The truck driver escaped without injury.
